So yeah, my uncle decided to wash the dishes. For some reason he must have thought that I had a garbage disposal because the damn thing is WAY clogged with junk.

I tried Dran-o, no luck. I took apart the mine pipe that goes straight from the sink, it's clear. The "U" bend at the bottom is clear, so I take that off. Now comes the piece of horizontal pipe that goes out of the house. Stick my finger in there and yeah....it's clogged!

I can't stick my finger in far enough to fish the crap out. Suggestions!?!?!?!

Put it back together and add more dran-o if that doesn't work try more dran-o and if that doesn't work call a plumber because you just ate holes through your pipes and they need replacing

Snake it. Go to the rental place and rent a short (25') hand operated snake. It won't take much to unclog it.

Where is all the drano you used. If it's on your hands you'd better wash and maybe use some vinegar. You don't want to pull pipes full of drano.

Snakes work wonders if they work right. They can be a pain though. If you ever see a professional do it on a main drainpipe you'll see results. You'd be surprised how many roots can work into a pipe.

You stick a hose in there and stuff a cloth around it to seal in the pressure and get somebody to turn it on. You do this before drano.

Yeah, I am definetly going to do it myself. No way I can afford a plumber to do it.

No amount of drano is going to work. The drano only makes it to the bend before water and crap starts comming back up to the sink again. When I took the bend out all the drano fell into the bucket.

This really pisses me off. It was great that he did the dishes, but he screwed up...he should be the one taking care of it, NOT me.

So this snake, where do I buy one from or whatever?

I could try the hose thing tommorow I guess.

Oh yeah, tried the plunger, no luck.

Nutdotnet:

listen.
dont listen to some of the advice on here, it can greatly increase your problems. don't put too much drano because it isn't good for your pipes. Plunging something that far down .. fogetta bout it.

Get the snake. i think home depot has it. if they dont' got to a plumbers supply store.

good luck.

Yeah, I put a lot of drano down the sink...but like I said, 90% of it probably came back into the bucket. So no harm to the pipes there.

Yeah, the plunger thing didn't work BECAUSE the clog is too far down.

Drano isn't going to work if the clog is past the u-bend. You are going to have to snake it, or take the pipes back off and ream it with a coat hanger.

Seriously this works awesome. Hook a garden hose up to hot water preferably and shove rags around it. Turn it and let it go for like 5 minutes.

F the pipes, it's you I'm worried about with the drano. It's bad news for your skin. It's sodium hydroxide, caustic soda. It eats flesh and clogs.

Yeah, that Drano is some messed up stuff. I did get it on both my hands, but I washed my hands real well afterwards, and I just doused them with vinegar and washed them again. They feel alright, just real dry.

I've never had to deal with a clog like this before.....feel pretty stupid.

The pipes are still off, I tried reaming it with a coat hanger but I think it is only pushing the crap deeper and deeper.

like others have said, drano is bad for your skin. it's the same stuff that tyler durden burned the narrator's hand with in the movie fight club. the only difference is that drano has metal or aluminum flakes in it. it's better to neutralize it with an acid such as vinegar.

as for clearing your pipes, you might want to also check out harbor freight. they sell inexpensive tools. if you called a plumber they'd probably snake it too, so you might as well do it yourself and save yourself some money.

Done plumbing for years (ugh). I think buying a snake would be the way to go, I've seen them at places like Harbor Freight for less then $10.
