How aggressive are you during test drives?

i'll give it at least one full throttle run (often you can take it on the freeway for an exit or two, so this is a good opportunity for this), plus one all-out braking stop. you don't want to take the turns too hard cause you don't know how it's going to handle and you don't want to find out the hard way that it doesn't handle well, but you want to take them hard enough to get a feel for body roll, reflexes, etc. i think most salespeople expect this. or at least they've never given me any problems.

Doesn't it say in most owner manuals not to take the engine to full throttle for the first 50 or such miles to seat the rings?

If so, aren't you screwing yourself if you buy the car?

It says that but I'd venture to guess that most ppl who truly flog a car during a test drive wouldn't buy the same one. I sure as hell wouldn't.

BTW, many times the salesman will encourage you to really push it. You should have seen the guy I went with to drive an Evo. Now he was really flogging that car around!
