How accurate is speedfan?

I just got a new asrock mobo which doesn't seem to come with any temp sw so I have to depend on speedfan sw for that. But what's weird is that it shows the temps to be atleast 10 degrees lower than what pcprobe used to show on my previous asus mobo with the same cpu. What could be up with that?

A little more information would be nice, like what mobo and processor...is it a Core 2? I read something about Speedfan temps being 15°C lower than the actual temp values (something about Speedfan reading temps differently)

s/w temp probes are only as accurate as the data they get, so it is not always a program issue usually but more how the temp diodes are on the m/bs.

honestly, i don't worry to much about temps if my heatsink is on good, has a good application of AS5 (the correct way per the AS5 website) and a good working fan. i have in my bios, set it not to boot if the cpu fan doesn't work so i am good to go.

besides, you can only really compare temps to the exact same m/b if at all because of all the differences you need to take into effect w/ a temp reading.

I can testify that the core of E4300/E4400 is square (about 1/2" square), NOT rectangular. Therefore, there is NO advantage in applying the AS5 in a longitudinal manner per the AS5 website.

I think theire explanation was the main guts of the two cores is up and down in the center of the CPU. So instead of with a traditional single core CPU, where it might be smack dab in the middle of the cap on the CPU, the dual core is actually rectangle.

What you are referring to as "the core" is actually the metal cap on top of the actual core.
