Connected at 26,400bps, best I can ever get. Throughput is averaging .23 kbps, DSL users eat your heart out............

12xx kbps when it works. ADSL from Prodigy through Southwestern Bell. Prodigy bought SBC (SWB's internet/adsl division). I lose 'sync' every night. I often test at less than 300 kbps. Last night I did 8 ping tests. Six came back as 100% packet loss. I did several others and they timed out. A magazine on the shelves now has a comparison of ISP's. Prodigy/SWB was dead last. Absolutely the most complaints about tech support. Tech support is a waste of time. I have called literally more than 60 times for the same prob of line (sync) loss. Not one effort has been made to correct the line problem. They have had me "power cycle" the modem. This means to turn it off for 2 minutes and then turn it on. The phone techs will tell you to unplug it. I think it is just a sneaky way to get you to make sure it is plugged in. Next they have you remove and reinstall software. Then they say they will "escalate" the problem to higher level techs. The final move is they all go home for the day. I have had the same prob from the beginning in May when it was installed. It disconnects during inactivity. (They advertise it as "always on") But sometimes I can't connect and always lose connection to this always on line. Seek the review...save yourself heartache and headache if you are looking for adsl service.

ROFL (not really) I had to copy this to notepad and paste it into a fresh window after disconnecting and reconnecting to reactivate my always on line.

Paladinexe, I had southwestern bell dsl for two months, before I moved here. I have to admit, I would still rather have them then their dial up service, but there were a lot of problems. One of which was the Tech Support guy arguing with me, saying I lived in Los Angeles!!! "No sir, you must be mistaken, please check your address" WTF!?!

abracadabra1, it is a Best Data External modem. Not the greatest in the world, but not too bad. It is not streaming as well as I thought it would, kind of used to seeing the data light just stay on with an external modem. I have run some tests and I am cursed with both lousy data transer settings on Southwestern Bell's part and just crappy phone lines also thanks to Southwestern Bell. Gotta love the way the government helped us out by instituting competition within the phone companies to help up out. :)

ratkil, I can empathize. I can only get dialup where I'm at, and most of 'em are so overloaded they crawl. Finally resorted to a free ISP - splatternet. I'm on at 53,333 bps, which may seem laughable to you DSL gloaters, but it's zooming for us poor little people in the sticks. :)

unxpurg8d if I had the all the other perks of living in the sticks I would not mind so much, but I live in Afton, which is basically part of the city of St Louis. 'Bout as far from the sticks as you can get, think the problem is they are probably still using the copper that was run for the telegraph lines back in the 1800's..........
