All i have is a razorblade and some paint thinner (also some rubbing alcohol but it doesnt help much). Will the paint thinner hurt the HS?

just use vegetable oil and scrape the gunk off with a plastic spoon. don't use the razor blade because you mind scratch up the surface.

why dont you just scrape it off with a knife and Lap it.

You should lap it anyways, it will give better conductivity. I did it with my brand-new CGK742 and it didnt do any damage since I just finely sanded it down anyways. Just be careful thats all, and I'm sure pretty much anything will work to scrape it off

I jsut scraped off the pad and used a WD-40 equivalent on the residue. It wiped right off.

Paint thinner is usually made of petrolium distillates and would probably work okay. You can manually scrape off most of it and use any kind of organic solvent to get the rest off...

And regarding lapping - although I haven't tried it yet, I understand people seem to have the best results doing a wet lap with 220 or finer sandpaper...

Paint thinner may be OK to remove the pad BUT, you need to clean up wilh Isopropyl Alcohol. The paint thinner residue will react with your thermal grease and thats not good.
