I was just reading the thread pertaining to the desire to have Half Life benchmarks and I thought to myself, "Why not have a series on the video games we like to play most?" We could begin this by finding out which games people like to play most, narrow it down to the favorites, and poll to find the order of popularity thereby establishing the order in which to compose and publish the articles. If that's too much of a pain, then I have a list of my own:
1) Unreal Tournament
2) Quake3 Arena
3) Half Life/Counterstrike
4) Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
5) Mercedes-Benz Truck Racing
6) Giants
7) Serious Sam
Each article could focus on the gameplay, image quality, and benchmarks with systems of varying horsepower(MHz) and firepower(video cards). Perhaps at the end of the series there could be an article previewing the direction of games for the year 2001 and beyond since it would most likely be Q3 at this point anyway, with the advent of Doom3 on the horizon at that point as well as other titles which might hopefully be taking advantage of the DirectX 8 API.
What do you guys think? If we exhibit a demand for such a series of articles, perhaps the AT staff would accomodate us
. What games would you like to see reviewed in such articles? Which video cards and processor levels ought to be tested? Should older products be included, such as Voodoo2/3's and P2 450's? Which video cards, processors, and chipsets would we want to see represented in the benchmarks and comparisons? One of the main purposes of such articles would be to see the performance of hardware combinations at varying levels of resource power and budget, taking into account other factors than framerate
. Is this something which appeals to other AT readers besides myself?
