Oh my god, that is the most adorable thing. I wish I could have a dog in my apartment. I'll have to make do with my cat, Pancake. :)

BTW, People, you know there are animal shelters in your city. Even if you cant have a puppy in your apartment, you can go there and volunteer(Take a dog for a walk, go to the beach with him, play around). Its not that time consuming, dogs in the shelter love you, the practically beg for your company when you get there. Most of them are well trained beautiful animals that were abandoned by humans just like you. There is a huge Saint Bernard in on of the Shelters in Santa Barbara that looks at you in such a way that makes your heart ache. And to think that he was abandoned by a human being, a friend. Hey, Im not a sensitivy type at all, I just went there with my girlfriend to check out different breeds of dogs(we think of getting a puppy when we move to a new place). Now I am afraid to go back because I think Ill want to adopt them all. There were many good looking dogs ranging from 6-month to couple of years, pit bulls, rottweilers, shepherds, some crossbreeds...Anyhow, adopt a dog today :)

I would adopt a dog but I still go to school so I can't commit enough time to have one ... plus, I can't keep it at the place where I live. :( Wouldn't mind having one afterwards though.

About four months ago my wife and I wered driving out in the Texas hill country (not many houses). We saw a baby puppy in the middle of the road. We stopped and asked a couple houses within about a half mile if anybody knew whose it was. Nobody did so we brought him home with us. My family and I have rescued four dogs from the animal shelters. It is scientifically proven that pets owners live longer. Rescue a pet from the shelter. They do not cost much money and you are saving a life.

Joker - That is a great service you are doing and I wish you all the luck in finding an owner. I currently already have two dogs at my house and cannot have another one.

I agree PicPop. Black Lab puppies are soooo cute. Unfortunatly, they grow up to be HUGE, and I could never confine one to an apartment....they need lotsa room to run. They're smart as hell though, and make great feet warmers while at the computer :)

Just a somber note on all this - puppies and kittens given as gifts (any holiday) are more often neglected than if someone had decided to get a pet on their own.

I adopted my dog from the pound when he was 10 months old, pretty much full grown. Vet there told me how rare that was, usually anything past puppy age gets destroyed. Sometime this spring a lot of X-mas pets will grow out of the cute stage and end up in pounds.

Anyway, just something to consider if any of you were thinking about giving a puppy for a gift. I completely agree though, she's adorable :) Never got to see my dog at that stage, bums me sometimes, (especially since he ran stray for awhile before I got him and never has much liked discipline), but I look at it as having cleaned up someone else's mistake and try to give him a good life. Which he pays back daily.

When ValueAmerica.com was still around they said they would donate a small percentage of your purchace to a charity, I always chose The Guide Dogs of America charity, maybe even this one ( I think it was value america ).
I would love to have more dogs but my three german shepards take up too much room in my small house in the city already, my wife did save one of them from the pound.

As vladgur said it is a great idea if you guys could go to the shelter and volunteer but if you don't have the time many places would love a donation of pet food, old blankets/pillows or if you could a few dollars (I know most of us here are really cheap but this is for a good cause) Alot of these places don't put the animals to sleep and are often over-crowded, so if you could a home for one of them would be great!!!

big fat and smelly???? i'm sorry, I have two labs, one yellow the other chocolate. also had a black for 9 yrs. besides shedding (a lot!) they are very clean dogs.

those interested in rescuing a dog have many options. your local shelter to start. we got our chocolate from lab rescue of central indiana (cilra.org) best of both worlds...a dog that's already house broken! don't wanna do the puppy thing anymore...
