How about a Moderated "Repost FAQ" in OT?

A past "Official" post

I see some definite value to this. Have it as a locked sticky up top a la trading guidance in FS/FT or part of the FAQ, just so long as it's moderately dynamic and can be added to by a moderator.

1. Would make claims of "repost" much easier (simply link to the stickied thread)
2. would make claims of "Use search next time" easier (Crippled keyword search can make it difficult to find things)
3. would make it easier for me to find the link I "should" have bookmarked (Yatta, Kittens, etc.)

You know, why should it bother you and others if a subject has been posted before? Many times I see people post "Repost "in a thread were I hadn't read the original thread that usually is about 5 pages back. Why not just let the Mods worry about it.

BTW, half the topics posted in OT are Reposts 20 times over.

It's really not a big deal to me if something is a repost and I don't call people on it except to point out past discussion. Like many others, most of the time I didn't see the post the first time around and couldn't care less whether or not it'd been posted before. Saw this as a way to put a bigger burden on the user posting and less on the moderator.

No argument there. Damn kiddies.

i like your idea Hossenfeffer but i also agree with Red. Red, what about the posts that keep coming back such as the kitten and the photoshopped ghost? i mean people still post that and it has been seen numerous times. maybe it would be a good idea for like the new people coming in. i don't know. it probably won't be happening though, so i'm not gonna worry too much about it.

I agree with pyonir that it's a good idea, unfortunately there would be those who would use it to coronate themself Thread Reposting Monitors which would create a maddening situation.

<< Thread Reposting Monitors >>

Don't we already have those? ;)
I do see what you mean, though. Hopefully, we'd see more folks take a look at the repost faq before offering up "this great new star wars flash movie I just saw!"

hmmm maybe if they locked the thread and the FAQ admin could put together the list based on PMs from members that have links to a few threads about the same thing. ya know what i mean? that might be a little too much though...would be interesting but like i said, i don't foresee it happening any time soon.

Do you really think that someone with enough time to read the 'repost thread' would search for past posts?

It seems to me that if the subjects are coming up that must mean that there's still people who haven't seen it, right? They aren't allowed to bring it up because it's been brought up before?

I just don't understand. Why do people get their panties in such a bunch over reposts? The way I see it, the problem is 5% reposts and 95% people making a big deal about them. Wasn't it just a few days ago where somebody reposted something and Russ(I think) promptly put him in his place because it was a repost

and a big thing ensued. I bet the majority of the time, the user knows it's a repost before he clicks on the topic...he's just going ga-ga hoping he's the first one who can post "REPOST!".

Remember when I/BTL was banned? I think you know where I'm going with this.
