How about a Heller vacation

Two weeks? I just PMed Heller and he said he got four weeks? Either way, I think the reaction was a little too strong. We had a thread on Rick Rolling in the past and this is what Derek Wilson said:

this is not against our forum guidelines, and will not be a bannable offense.

as has been suggested, it's a good idea to check where a link will take you before clicking it.

we could ask FT to implement a parenthetical notation citing the actual domain linked to for each link like slashdot does if you guys think it would help. i don't know how quickly this could be implemented, but if it's wanted we will persue it. otherwise, just be careful what you click (and what you have your volume set to).

So yes, Heller's link was a little beyond the normal Youtube link and had a little Javascript action - but I think a warning would have sufficed. He isn't a troll with a bad record or anything.

It definately shouldn't be 4 weeks, let me go double check. I also started a senior mod discussion on it so they can comment.

edit: It's definately set to two weeks. I'll double check with Derek on the rules, we've definately vacationed people for those links before (it wasnt simply a link with a different name, it was a linkbomb and would be treated the same as say someone posting a logoff link bomb)

Ah yes, he said he made a mistake and thought it was four weeks. It's definitely two weeks.

BTW, I am not just saying this just because I am friendly with the guy - I didn't realize until now that this sort of thing could get two weeks, that's all. Thanks for the response.

No problem. I PM'd him directly on this, I'm waiting to hear back from him.

One last update. After discussing this with Derek we still feel this should have been obvious that this was pushing too far. However we agree that the rules should better spell this out. Derek will update them accordingly and we agreed to shorten Hellers vacation to one week.

I don't care about people putting stupid links that I can just close, but that damn one in one of the listed threads could only be closed by shutting down all of my browsers; that should be punishable.

this is the kind of thing we'll be dealing with in the new rule ... i'm still working on wording / writing it ... (i like to be thorough and accurate).
