How about a "Forums Status" area?

1.) How about a forum status area, where we can see what is up (or down)? Planned maintainance, upgrades, etc.

2.) An online submission form that allows you to fill out necessary information (exact error, browser version, OS, etc.) when we see an error on the forum. Once it has been submitted by a few different users, everyone else check the status area to see if there is a problem and 100's of others don`t have to submit the same problem to you.

This will avoid stupid assumptions, rumours, and uneeded repitition (when forum members notify you of the problem) when problems arise and keep a LOT of people informed and therefore happy!

Thanks for your time.

I can see value in using the Announcement section of the Today page to announce future downtime/upgrades/downgrades/etc.

I also think that an area on the main Anandtech site would be invaluable to list server outages, maintainance, etc. When the forums were last down I had no clue what was going on. ;) A spot on the My.Anandtech page would work. Could be some server statistics, blah blah (Ugh... powers... fading..... Can't... finish... thought)

They usually post a sticky at the top of this forum for that purpose - thats what this forum is for

What makes you think that these people who find errors will check this "status area" first when they can't read 3 posts down to see the 2 other posts about that same topic? Most current errors are reported 3-5 times everyday even though it's right there on the first page - that person is just too ignorant to look at it.

I'm not trying to flame - I apologize ahead of time if my post sounds flamish - but there's always going to be stupid users

And when there is stupid users there are mods.. but in this case the mods will be too busy wrapped up in their work and can't tell the stupider users among us to read the sticky..

I am not targetting anyone.. since I said stupider users.. and I gather the people who take offence are the stupider ones.. ;)

Call me crazy, but its a good chance that when you can't get into the forums they are down. How is that for a status check?

RagingBitch:

"They usually post a sticky at the top of this forum for that purpose - thats what this forum is for"

Who is "they"? I have never seen ANY mention in this forum of planned maintainance, upgrades, search problems, etc.

I do however, see numerous threads in here ALL the time, that go completely unanswered, regarding problems with certain aspects of the forum.

"What makes you think that these people who find errors will check this "status area" first when they can't read 3 posts down to see the 2 other posts about that same topic?"

We`ll never know until we try it.

"Most current errors are reported 3-5 times everyday even though it's right there on the first page - that person is just too ignorant to look at it."

Too bad for them. There are always going to be stupid users/people, and hopefully this will help a bit.

"I'm not trying to flame - I apologize ahead of time if my post sounds flamish - but there's always going to be stupid users."

If you think it sounded flamish, why would you post it? Apology accepted.

If you go back and read my post, you will see that I mentioned "maintainance, upgrades, etc." There are several components of the forum that
can stop working, the search function for example. This Forums status area would most likely be on a different server, so when the Forums
are down for maintainance or whatever, we can all see that and hopefully an estimated time back to live.
