Ok, well heres the scoop: Remember I was saying how BF1942 was resource intensive on a game server and might need a dedicated box. . . Well I want to test my theory. So I am installing a Battle Field 1942 server as I type this. Do you ATers want to play tonight?

I had the server up but you guys are too slow and since I have to be here to monitor it... its down for now. Maybe tommorow or next weekend. But would you play?

Heres my vote, Liberation of Caen...El Alam...Gazala... Invasion of Phillipines if we have a lot of players.

Liberation of Caen, bocage , and Stalingrad...if we have a few players.

Yes Coral Sea sucks if you can't fly for sh!t which I cannot. I hate Gazala too. It's too huge and half the time you get stuck walking around forever only to be killed and starting your 'death march' over again because there are no available tanks or jeeps at the spawns.

I moved into a new house and won't have cable until Wednesday so hopefully if all goes well I can get in on this by the weekend.

Actually, Coral Sea sucks even if you can fly, which is what I spend 90% of my playing time doing.
It's just so damn boring and there is really no strategy.

I can't believe you don't like Gazala?
I love it of course because of the relative lack of AA guns.
But it's also a great map for tankers. (I assume you are a tanker with a preference for the Panzer).
As much as I like to fly, I will often start a round of Gazala spawning at the North or South point, grabbing a tank, and taking the other two points ( I skip the one with the two AA guns) as quickly as possible. Assuming everyone on the other team spawns at the base, this is a great strategy to get a quick advantage.

EDIT: Any chance of a BF: Vietnam server in a couple weeks?
March 16 is the official release date and I've got my copy preordered.

There is a chance of everything as long as I get enough donations to run it. The reason I want to test this out is because I want to see how much load it puts on the server, and in other words, how much it would cost me.

By the sounds of the server setup I would stick to 24 players MAX. So stay with small to mid sized maps (damn Philipines map is too large) and Liberation of Cean, while damn fun, is only enjoyable with 32+ players. Nothing is worse than a laggy server where you have to shoot 1 sec ahead of where the target is running towards, I always get a headache on those servers.

Naw, Liberation is fine with just 24 people. It was the CAL-O map last week, and it worked out fine with just 24 people. If the server is nice and not very laggy it'd be a great map to play on.

Coral sea is awesome even if you can't fly. Just be an engineer, everey respawn drain your wrench on the carrier and then man the AA guns. If you learn how to lead a plane with the guns properly you can get tons of kills. Using the 12345 keys to switch positions will save you when someone gets a bead on your gun and helps to follow targets when they fly over the deck. Or else just get in the back seat of a bomber, parachute out near the enemy carrier, climb up and give them grief until they catch you.

Coral Sea is boring.
There are only two things to do:
1. Use plane to bomb enemy carrier.
or
2. Use AA to defend carrier.

That gets old really fast.
