How a VRML page got the best of me.

I found a page that had some vrml that I wanted to see. To my surprise neither of my browsers had a vrml plugin installed.

So I searched at tucows and nada, at c|net and zilt, finally on netscape I found a link to Viscape/Superscape and I followed it.

To get to it, AOL is now requiring that I register with them before I download the plugin. So I pluged in:))) some fake bull and clicked away. To my surprise again their link was also fake, and only led me to some old page at Superscape. How low are these people now.... soon they will be selling free links on eday.

Kinda pissed by now I went into Superscape website and the only way to get their plugin was by automatic install, which I try to avoid as the plague. So I gave up.

Now I feel conned by AOL, stonewalled by Superscape, obsoleted by the download sites and frustated that I couldn't see something I thought it would be cool.

I better go to sleep :disgust:

Exactly what do you've against automatic install? They're not going to take your PC over with it ;)

No they won't take over my pc, but they can install pesty applets that keep contacting their homesite, like I've had before.

I like to download, scan, and depending on the app 'installwatch' it. The auto-install circunvents all these steps that I consider important.

Maybe I'm too paranoyd and stuborn....
