Anybody have one or used one? My old house had this system and it was useful in that you didnt have to lug around a canister, just plug the hose into a port on the wall and vacuum away with the motorized head. The exhaust of the vacuum system was ducted outside, much like a dryer vent so in theory it kept the air cleaner inside the house. The suction unit was beefy and the canister was almost the size of a trash can, maybe needing to he emptied once every few months.

Is this something anyone would still purchase and install into a new construction?

Most (mid - high end) Builders offer them. I remember when I buying a house it was a standard feature, the bust buy guy at the design center was hell bent on selling me the unit. I didn't really need to buy it but the hosing was by default installed. i was more interested in getting the whole house wired for networking and speakers. Call the builders in the area that you prefer and ask them, I am sure most of them can do that for you. Even if not, some will allow your contractors to come in and lay these in while they are constructing.

new construction is the time to do it, plus network wiring.

Not a fan of them.

The hose is the weakness - long ass unwieldy snake that you have to wrestle into shape every time you use it, or when unwinding it flies all over the place. PLus alot of delicate furniture gets scuff marks on the corners for heavily vacuumed areas.

But we did install the system in our old house right before we sold it.

Also installed it in current house

Ive got one, and love it. It does take some effort carrying the big hose around with you, but it does a really great job. Have all the attachments for it too. We empty the filter canister maybe once every 3-4 months. THAT part is really, really messy. Overall, better than an upright.

huh? Not mounted in the garage?

Ours is in the basement too (boiler room). The biggest benefit I see you get a really powerful vacuum but don't have to lug it around. When the sized the hose though they didn't consider furniture so now it's tricky trying to get to some corners. If you get one be sure to put some slack in the hose.

Also, don't get curious and start putting things that don't belong on the wall nozzles or you'll become a funny story that firemen tell during parties.
