Household Destruction Part II: new picture window on the front of the house!!

Now that the sliding door is in, it's time to rip into the front of the house. It used to have a one-car garage that was (badly) closed off into a den. We decided to have the crap paneling door and small window taken out in lieu of a big picture window and brick to match the rest of the house.

I didn't get a chance to take a proper "before" picture this morning, so here's an older small one. The white paneling on the left side of the house is what's getting axed.

House before.

They've got the old stuff ripped out, the new framing done and the window installed (sucker was heavy as hell....it took two people to lift it the other day when it was delivered).

Shot of the new window from the inside of the house. I'll be sheetrocking around it soon, so just ignore the crap paneling. It's temporary.

The new window from the outside.

Another shot of the front of the house. Area around the window will be bricked in this weekend to match the rest of the house. 5 bonus points if you can spot the small dog in the photo. :p

Nope. I'm having a contractor do the hard stuff and I'm doing the finish work.

Original thread is linked in this one, BTW.

THe dog's in the bottom left corner panel of the window? where's my bonus points!

BTW, isn't it hard to find bricks that will match the original ones? I always see houses with new renovations done and it totatlly shows where the new addition was because the bricks don't match. Is there a technique to make them look the same?

Yup. It would be nice to have, but our house is so damn small that we need the space for us more than for the cars.

It is somewhat difficult, but not impossible to at least make it look decent. Honestly, if it ends up looking like crap, we'll just paint the house and be done with it.

Looks good. I need an old house to rip apart and fix. I'm getting tired of living in an apartment

That's pretty much where we were a few years ago. I take it housing prices haven't softened up much in your neck of the woods yet?

We got lucky and discovered a niche of Atlanta that is undervalued if anything, yet not the ghetto. I may look into buying more property here before everyone else figures out my secret. ;)

bout 180 for a 1700 sq ft cookie cutter house on a 1/4 acre, where your neighbors house is 5 feet away from yours? No thanks.

The wife and I will probably be moving to Colorado Springs within the next year or so as well.

well, upper cabinets are painted. just need to paint the bottom cabinets now! :D
LOL, that's cool, not much room above the stove though..

I bet the bottom of your microwave is going to get goobered through time. :p

thanks!

it might get goobered, but there is no way i am going to raise the cabinet set. And getting the counter space back from where the microwave used to be really makes a big diff.

cheers and beers.

we'll just paint the (brick) house and be done with it.

Never paint brick! you will regret it, or the next owner will curse you to the depths of HELL:evil: for all eternity.
