House question

Starting from scratch, how much time should I allow if I want to set a date in the future to buy? This would include searching, getting financing, arranging the closing, etc. 6 months? A year?

Thanks🙂

Get your financing pre-approved for the price range you are looking at, so when you find something you want, you can commit to it right away.

Getting pre-approved (not pre-qualified) takes about 1 - 2 weeks, depending on lender.
Once you find the house you want, it takes about 45 days. That's assuming you get a 30 day escrow.

We bought ours in 30 days start to finish. Our credit was good and we weren't super picky. Things would have gone faster if the previous owners were ready to move sooner and the mortgage company rep had been a little more timely with turning in the paperwork. Given what we experienced in buying ours, I think if we were buying a vacant house we could push the timeframe down to two weeks.
