Can't get shit for under $1,000,000 around here

Not true man- Openers for a decent house in a decent neighborhood is $600K. Plenty of places for $600 - $750K in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, West San Jose, Camden, Campbell Fremont, Almaden Valley and the like. All places with good schools and low crime.

Gets a bit pricier as you move up the peninsula............

Yeah, agreed. I recently checked listings in the Willow Glen area and there's lots of houses in the $700k range...granted, they're like 1,250-1,500 sq. ft. with a tiny ass yard but located in a decent area.

That monthly is cheaper than a parking space in and around downtown Chicago

That always amazed me, that and HOA/condo fees, I would have to make 3 to 4 times what i make to even have a sniff at a house in some of those places

There are definitely nice houses in this price range depending on the area. A friend of mine is a Realtor and bought his house on foreclosure in a nicer area of Pulaski county, VA for $25k. It's got a basement, two stories, detached one car garage and a completely fenced in yard.

yeah, HOA fees annoy me--though I think they actually make the most sense in condos, as they pay for all of the building amenities that everyone uses.

..unless each resident prefers to divide up cleaning duties for the building, which no one would do. keeps elevator running, pool in shape if there is one, etc...

God I hate the steelers and the fans are like ants around here. Job is decent local government not going to get rich. Will save about $100 a month is gas from the drive every day, this is going to b good.

I live in a top-10 US city and there are tons of houses available here from $30-60k, most of them are livable too. Brand new 1000~ sq ft starter homes in new developments start around 80K.

If I was able to qualify for a loan I would be living in one.

Just good back from the bank, the house we are looking at will have a payment of $207, the house is only 48,000 though.

W...T...F?! I can't even get a trashy bachelor apartment in the bad part of the city for that. D:

To those calling shens, $48k can get a decent house in the Clarion, PA area. It's an affordable area of the country to live in.
Is that close to Dave?
I say we get a group buy going and purchase an AT party/retirement home. Something on about 20 acres.
