How would it further empower anyone? And yes... oh god yes do we need to inform America about what happened. The actual insurrection itself is a small part of what the committee is investigating.

The important revelations from the committee are not about the riot, they are about the attempted coup that predated the riot.
Beau presented a stat yesterday that I am not sure I believe.
Right after jan 6h, 54% of the US people thought Trump should be criminally prosecuted for those events. A whole year later, that number have dropped to….. 52%. What? People have not forgotten about the shitbag.

I still have a major problem with the insurrection investigation i.e. the lack of law enforcement on site on January 6th.
Just yesterday a photo was shown on the news of the security that has been dispatched to the house of supreme court justice Brett Kavanaugh. Some big, scary dudes set in place to protect Kavanaugh. Yet.... the security at the capitol on January 6th looked like mall-cops. Guys and gals in jump suits, some wearing helmets from Toys R Us, as the only active law enforcement on site. Was it not odd that the insurrectionist were allowed to simply stroll up to the capitol building and that building protected only by mall-cops?
Yes, despite this committee investigations, I fear the committee has not scratched the surface. I do believe the complicity of this insurrection goes a lot further and deeper than we know. May ever know.

And I believe the complicity went much further and deeper to also involve the US military. I believe that Donald Trump foreseen the plausible need to call on the United States military to take a part. The insurrection never got that far to call out the military, but it would have been necessary if Mike Pence had indeed done what Donald Trump wanted Pence to do, to fail to certify Joe Biden.
If the insurrection had fully succeeded with Donald Trump remaining as president and not Joe Biden, well.... the military would absolutely have been necessary to thwart outrage and massive protest across the country.

And remember, remember in November of 2020 that Donald Trump replaced officials in the pentagon with his own cronies. No one not even the press could quite understand why? Why would Trump do this at the last minute? Well, Trump did this because Trump knew that an insurrection would take place to overthrow the US government. And if successful, that riots would occur across the nation and military involvement would be necessary. This is why Trump needed HIS PEOPLE in place and in power at the pentagon.
NONE OF THIS has the committee investigated.

Imagine if Mike Pence had actually done what Donald Trump expected Pence to do, and Joe Biden had been denied his presidency, and riots had broken out across America, just imagine... Then, it absolutely would have been necessary for newly installed dictator Donald Trump to invoke the military across America to stamp out the outrage.
Yes.... Donald Trump definitely had this government overthrow well planned right down to replacing officials in the pentagon with loyalist to Donald Trump.

Or each other in Liberal cities. You might want to rerun the numbers on who commits most of the violent crimes in the country. You wouldn't have done anything except pooped your pants.
Quit being an apologist. They were owed a bullet in the head, they're fucking lucky they didn't get one.

Looks like Fox has issued their talking points.
Per a deplorable a friend of mine knows:

To the lemmings in the peanut gallery, did you do your research on tonight’s “committee”?

The Chairman did not accept George W Bush’s election results. Another refused to accept Trump’s election results. And, then you have Adam “Can I quietly apologize to the public for spreading lies about Trump” Schiff - what a bunch of losers.

To cap it off, the producer (did I really type that) of tonight’s spectacle is the same ABC executive that forced his employees to “kill the Epstein story” to cover for the Clintons and Royals.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the theater. I’m still waking up tomorrow to $5-$7 gas and dodging bullets driving by homeless tents…

Well if Garland doesnt sack up, its entirely on Biden. 100%. Buck stops at him, his responsibility to have an AG that acts like an AG.
With the hearings running to July, I would not expect anything until then. Or maybe slightly after the election so things don't "look political" to conservatives. Charging trump will likely fire them up to vote

If it was BLM, they would have had their bails paid for and been thanked for destroying property.
Hey bitch boy:

Or called in the NG troops?
Your boy Trump refused to call in the NG. Glad you hold him responsible for that at least.

I wasn't going to watch this because I thought it would just be a combination of depressing and boring. I assumed it would be a rehash of the evidence already presented at the Senate impeachment trial of which I saw 90%. But my wife cajoled me into watching it.

I encourage everyone to watch Liz Cheney's opening remarks. They are packed with bone chilling facts I hadn't heard before. Just take one example. Trump senior advisors pleading with him to stop the riot, and citing the fact that rioters were shouting "hang Mike Pence!" And Trump responding with "maybe they got it right, Pence does deserve to be hanged." That is, I assume, sworn testimony of one or more Trump advisors.

According to Cheney, a federal judge, after examining the evidence, said Trump is likely guilty of violating at least two federal criminal statutes. What is Merrick Garland going to do with what the committee has handed him? Anything?

same. I wasn't planning on watching either, but they came out of the gates making no mistake what this is about: Donald Trump, as POTUS, let an insurrection against the US, and it isn't under discussion. They have really remarkable evidence through video, text, documentation, piles and piles of testimony from the Trump circle and White House staff about the coordinated timeline of a very specific plan to overturn democracy and end the United States, simply because one man wanted it to happen. Proud Boys and Oathkeepers are very clearly shown to be the mercenary group that Trump organized to take this country for himself, and the evidence of communication and coordination between these groups is completely damning.

Cheney is worth watching. It's notable that every GOP piece of garbage that is "boycotting" this hearing are part of the insurrection. They know their culpability. The desperation stinks. ...Who asks for pardons for "things they didn't do," or "a little light protesting?" These people are fucking savages. After the palpable violence and rage from the mercenaries that people like Gym Jordan and MTG and Boebert sent against the USA, they need the gallows, as spelled out by our nation's laws. There really is no other proper option for these people.

If, at the end of this, Garland doesn't act, then we are accepting that we no longer have a republic beholden to laws, or the constitution as is currently exists.

After this Merrick Garland either needs to start bring serious charges against everyone there, and especially the top people. Or he needs to find a new job. We can't let a president attempt to overthrow the government and not do anything about it because we are afraid it might look political. Many governors have been jailed, no reason a president can't be. Or at least all the shitbags around him.

Hell, Herr PABOTUS can hang out with plenty of governors that he admires in Cook County correctional facility!

This is what I expected the committee to do and this is the primary reason why I stand by my position that Trump will be indicted. After this Garland will face enormous pressure to act and as Moonbeam said, I think he was looking for a congressional endorsement for action.

I still want to know if the capital police leadership was in on it. It is just hard to believe they were that incompetent.

I also want to know how much direct coordination there was between the WH and the idiots in Congress that protested the counting. If it was coordinated they should all be charged with conspiracy. Unfortunately, Democrats don't want it to look like they are jailing their political opponents so they will all walk free until they get another chance to overthrow the US government.

Like others have said ... I wasn't planning on watching it, but did anyway. Very powerful opening to the process that made obvious, logical points about what went on. The new video was really disturbing as well.

Problem is I think this will end up as "preaching to the choir". Not sure anyone's mind will be changed over this. Not even with the testimony from Trump insiders that they knew it wasn't a fraudulent election.

Perhaps. But we have to remember that there are many "normies" out there who are not plugged into politics and the news like people online. Broadcasting this on national TV across many channels and having a narrative that is digestible and bits that are easily shared on social media should make the story go far. With most of the elections, we just need to move the needle a little bit to keep the fascists out.

I hope you're right, but and that his historical inaction has been leading to this moment, but I remain highly skeptical.

Agree on the first part, but they were most likely not glued to the hearings. They were at a baseball game, or watching the Rangers game, or at some function for their kids. I think a lot of us here, that are hyper involved and informed, overestimate just how much the "normies" really care about any of this. And that's part of the problem TBH.
