We should have seen this coming, but it was still a surprise. The House of Saud has been straying from American influence ever since MBS arrested half his family and took over. Things only got worse after Khashoggi’s murder, and last year MBS extended Putin a lifeline by cutting oil production and keeping prices high.
Now they’ll be reestablishing ties with Iran. Never thought I’d see Wahhabis and Shiites working together but here we are.

But in a larger sense, China’s prestigious accomplishment vaults it into a new league diplomatically and outshines anything the U.S. has been able to achieve in the region since Biden came to office.”
Publicly the Biden administration is saying there ok with this and it isn’t that big a deal. But the perception seems to be China is on the rise in this region.
