House of Flying Daggers

Mo0o

Lifer
This is a good movie if you guys enjoyed Hero. It has Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau and this Japanese guy in it. The movie itself is similar to Hero in that it is filled with color and there are certain artistic liberties taken that go past realism. Anyways, if you liked Hero, you guys should like this movie.

I'm guessing I can live without it.

Hopefully that applies to any movie

Pretty much. Except the Evil Dead series.

Is House of Flying Daggers significantly different than Hero? Or would I be sitting through YAABM (Yet Another Asian Battle Movie)?

I think I'll watch it, but I don't believe that it's supposed to be an absolutely great movie like many people had Hero as.

Naw, it has very basic story telling and the color is not as vivid as Hero. But it is still a good movie by it's own right.

Cool. I'll keep it in mind for the next time I'm in that sorta mood.

I didnt like it. Kinda sucked in my opinion. There were parts that just seemed incredibly stupid and cliche, especially near the end.

It seems alot of mainland chinese people don't like it (according to imdb), I wonder why?

I don't know what this movie is about, but I know a lot of mainland chinese people that don't like hero. Mostly because they felt like it was a propoganda movie(as if they're not used to it already)

I just watched it. My complaint about the movie was the same one I had about Hero which was the character development wasn't as much as I had hoped to be. I don't know if the visuals were the same as Hero, but they were beautiful. Overall, I thought the movie was OK.

Hero was a let down for me. the story i liked, but the action after the first fight was boring and repetitive. i can deal with some flying around and a few hankies floating about

but not that much

oh well :/

I didn't like Hero at all and I thought House of Flying Daggers was even worse. This director seems to like conveying emotion in fights by having the characters scream at each other in slow motion. The green robes that the members of the House wore were badass though.

I really like wuxia stuff in general, so I actually wanted to like these two movies, but they were sorely disappointing for me.

As much as I like Andy, I must say HOFD and Hero seem to be made with westerners in mind. Too artsy. It's like "ooooh....ahhhh" and that's it, nothing else.

I understand a movie is not real world, and a little overboard is ok. But it also retain a connection, a level of believe-ablilty (is that even a word? lol ), some some scenes are so far fetched, and that's when I lose interest in the movie.

I actually really enjoyed the movie...how could Hero possibly have been made with Westerners in mind when it was mostly paid for by the Chinese gov't? without going into my entire review of the movie, I think it shows great potential for Zhang Yimou outside of his traditional dramatic films. And it introduces Takeshi Kaneshiro to more people too...interesting guy, half-Japanese half-Chinese but fluent in all of the languages, thus allowing him penetration into all of the markets. For those of you who saw Chungking Express in the latest Tarantino craze, he was one of the cops...hard to miss him, due to his boyish nature in all of his movies.
