It was pretty good. One of the main male characters is played by Takeshi Kaneshiro, he is the character in the PS2 game Onimusha!

hero = for country, for the people, selfless sacrifice.
hofd = for self, pursuit of love, love over others.

interesting opposing themes for the movies by same people who made both.

Great movie, but to really appreciate it you must see it on a BIG screen. The director's (Zhang Yimou's) use of colors and attention to detail is phenomenal.

If you like the japanese movies (Hero, Fearless, Crouching Tiger etc...) you will love this movie. Its VERY well done, and the story REALLY sucks you in. Awesome storyline.

Zhang Zhimou is one the best directors of his generation. Of any nation. Before hero he did period dramas like Raise the Red Lantern and Farewell, My Concubine. Phenomenal movies.

I didn't think this one was as good as Hero or Crouching Tiger, but still good. I just didn't feel the same emotional attachment to the characters. Maybe it is because it was more about self and love over honor and sacrifice. I wouldn't mind seeing it again though.
