The Republican-controlled House is loading up GWB's budget with pork. It would be pretty embarrassing if he ends up threatening to veto a budget bill largely crafted by his own party.
"An $18.9 billion lands and energy bill that would bust President Bush's budget by 4.4 percent sailed through a House subcommittee on Thursday, a testament to the spending appetite of lawmakers of both parties."
``Most of our bills will be pretty close to Bush,'' Young (R-Fla)said. ``Will they be exactly the same? No, because Congress has the obligation to use its best judgment.''

Hmm, looks like the House Appropriations chairman just cut off his president at the knees. I thought (edit: fixed typo) the Republican party was going to be the model of spending restraint? Looks like a pretty bad start. Well, I guess we should not be too surprised, Republicans added $35 billion on top of Slick's last budget too. We all expect the Democrats to add spending, but I guess there really is no fiscal discipline in either party at all.
