One house next door has to be demolished. 8 others currently unlivable.

They found a bunch of intact acetylene tanks in the garage. Car in garage also intact. They are looking for pieces of exploded tanks currently. They will also need to reconstruct the gas line to see if has been altered, but can't complete that until the other house is demolished.

Saw this on the news a few days ago. Was a natural gas leak, at least that's what they said on news.... but sounds like it's not that now. Pretty crazy stuff.

I was wondering about that house next door. Part of its side looked caved in. Lucky (?) the house was adjacent to a bunch of backyards on the other side.

Acetylene... I know there are acetylene torches. Otherwise, ???

We use that old style electric crap. Terrible piece of shit that doesn't make full contact with the bottom of pans -- inner coils bright red, outside black sometimes. Induction looks awesome, but ya, cheapest induction tops I found a while ago were over a grand.

That's not induction. That's just regular electric with a "glass top".

Induction uses, errr, magneticabobs, and the pan itself heats up.

...but the sadness would be somewhat lessened if it's found that he tampered with the gas lines (actually very likely) and caused this. It destroyed neighbors' homes and caused other injuries, so they would probably be more angry than sad.

Police said last night he was a gas fitter. Kind of a greasy looking dude by the picture they had of him. I wouldn't be shocked.

Not real ones, just joint ones with KFC and they are, sadly, few and far between.

There's a standalone on in Brampton. I used work across from it. Of course it's right next door to the famous Sonny's, and there's a Burrito Boyz just up the road, so you'd be stupid to go there.

If you ever go to B-Town, go to Sonny's Burgers. It's the only thing that makes trips to that cesspit worth while.

If he was a gas fitter, then it *would* surprise me. Of all the people, you'd think that they're the least likely to make a mistake connecting gas lines.

Yeah, but they're also the ones most often working on gas lines. Around here, people DIY electrical, people DIY plumbing, and people DIY wood construction, but it's uncommon to hear of people doing DIY gas fitting. We don't have the bicycle tube gas meter bypass thing here.

BTW, there was another home explosion here a few years back, and that came about specifically because the gas company needed to upgrade the pipes. The work was being done by a licenced gas fitter.

Heard the neighbor only gets to retrieve personal stuff -- demolition workers go in to get it? Wonder if the demolition people get to "claim" all the not-as-personal stuff like TVs if they're willing to risk going in to get it...

They're on the clock and among co-workers. I doubt they have a truck nearby they lug it out to. Besides, that crap is probably busted.

Haha, yeah, Brampton looked rough when we drove past it a couple of weeks ago. Next time I am out that way I will try to check that out.

I don't know Brampton well but I can say that while Brampton has many nice areas, a lot of it is pretty rough.

Same can be said about Scarborough, but that part of Scarborough where the house blew up is pretty middle class.

Brampton is a good place to come from. It's a model city for poor planning and urban decay. My parents grew up there but left before all the scum from Jane & Finch infiltrated. Problem is my grandma still lives there and we can't get her to move.

I used to work at Queen & Kennedy across from Sonny's. Near where that little boy got shot and killed last summer. Thankfully it was only on a temporary basis when they were short staffed, or else I would have done my nut. I worked at a different store most of the time.

The house next to the one that exploded has been condemned, last I heard. Going to be torn down because it's unstable, but the shell looks intact enough that its contents are probably fine.

you can bet if it was here in Quebec the guys would have a truck to load the shit just waiting, might even have a shady team of guys on the side that go in first and fence the shit and then give the manager a cut

That would suck. I'd hate to be told I can't even go in what's left of my own house. Then again depending on how bad it is, I probably would not want to chance it anyway if it could collapse any time.

Sucks to lose everything like that though. Especially in Toronto where house prices are through the roof (no pun intended). I guess the good news is, it's probably still worth like 300k as is.

We used to have Taco Bell here but the location was not great, it failed, then we got Arby's in that location, I actually liked it, they made good burgers. That did not last either though. Now that changed into a store that sells oxygen tanks for old people. lol.

You kidding me? It's been pre-demolished for the next owner to build his/her castle.
