House Democrats: Subpoena Bill Barr

Enough is enough. Stop blaming Republicans for being complicit in an insurrection and whining about it...fucking do something. An enforceable subpoena of Bill Barr would be a good start.

A batch of emails released by the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee appears to paint a clearer picture of how former President Donald Trump and his allies attempted to pressure the U.S. Justice Department to investigate unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

The 232 pages of documents detail the unprecedented pressure campaign that Trump, along with his chief of staff and other allies, conducted to get senior officials at the Justice Department to challenge the results of the election in the face of Trump's loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

In one example, Trump directed sham claims of voter fraud to then-Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen less than an hour before the president tweeted that Attorney General William Barr — who publicly stated that there was not evidence of widespread election fraud — would be stepping down and replaced by Rosen.

I see no reason to suspect that Barr will play ball here. If he ends up sitting in the witness chair, he will make a lot of vague and circumstantial answers which don't directly address the question and when pressed will quibble with the wording of the question. And he'll do this enough for time to expire for any questioner. Most likely, 90% of the time will be spent with the questioner trying to score a political point anyway. Inherently partisan Congressional hearings with a witness who doesn't have something they want to share never meaningfully answer questions.

Not saying they shouldn't try.

Too bad he’ll just lie his ass off as usual.

yeah, he's perjured himself twice before Congress already (c. 88 or whatever, regarding Iran Contra, and during his confirmation hearings a couple of years ago), and there's no reason to assume he wouldn't go for the hat trick on the felony.

Though, I guess there might be some value to shuffle him out there and watch him lie again. I guess.
