How do you do a Time Lapse scene? Starting from the camera itself. I'll be trying this from my Canon HF S100 camcorder

Set up your camera on a tripod. Set it at a small aperture so you get a deep field of focus. I think I used F8.0 on mine for this scene. Then put your camera in manual focus mode so it doesn't start focusing on other items.

I have a Canon remote timer that I can program so the camera automatically takes a picture every X seconds. I use it with a 40D SLR. In AV mode, I turn my camera to HQ JPG at the smallest resolution since 1800x1200 or so is more than I need for a video for the web. This allows more pictures on the card.

Then I let my camera start shooting. Now since this was a night scene, I had to reprogram the camera a couple of times to raise the iso to make the pictures able to get taken quickly enough to process before the next one needed to get taken.

Before I start, I also do the math to figure out how long of a video I want to make, the approximate framerate and how long of an period of time I'm going to be taking. This video ended up being just over 30 seconds around 20FPS based on pictures taken once every 10 seconds.

When done, I do a quick batch touchup in lightroom, then use quicktime pro to open an image sequence, add some music and presto! A time lapse video! Then I just encode it in flash for the web :)

I could do this in manassas I suppose. We have one of the best fireworks displays in the area, and people start gathering in the park during daylight hours. But I dunno if I wanna babysit my camera all day.
I'll be damned if I head into DC today.
