HOTTT hard drives

I'm using a Seagate Barracuda IV 80gb and a WD 120gb. Both are 7200rpm and one is on top of the other. I recently opened my cases and just touched the side of the hard drives - they're quite hot! They dont burn my finger or anything - just really warm. I was wondering if this is normal and whether i should be worried about data loss due to the temps.

Thanks!

It's normal. Most drives are quite toasty. If you can though, space out the drives a bit so there's breathing room between them.

like he said ^ , I usually give them a 1/2 inch to an inch between for air flow.

if they are burning you , you need a fan. but most IDE drives shouldnt have a porblem with heat

If you have an case where the hard drive is behind the front fan install a fan there. (Antec, Chieftec, varients...) Also, put more space between the drives.

I have one 120gb right now, in front of a fan. if I were to get another HDD, I'd put it in the second hdd rack. =/
