Well it's getting closer to summer time and I am a little worried. My e6400, even when underclocked, idles around 47. Decreasing the volts to the lowest they can go and even having speedstep on yielded about 2 degrees. Thinking it was the motherboard I replaced it and the temps didn't change. Then I thought it was my freezer 7 so I bought another one and nothing changed. I am at a loss here lol. I just re-seated my HSF and put some mx-2 on it....nothing. It is running right next to a computer with a e2200 @ 3.1 idling at 22 :(

How is the surface of your chip? It sounds like you are getting poor contact between you chip and HSF. How are you applying your thermal compound? Also what are you ambients? How are you reading your temps?

I used the following methods: evenly spread over the hsf, a dab in the center (mx-2's suggested application) and a line across the hsf (arctic silver's method). Temps are read via bios, coretemp, and abit eq (all within 2 degrees of each other)
