Hotmail's "Sent Message Confirmation" to increase advertising?

Chewy

I think this feature was "added" in the last 5 minutes or so. Whenever you send an email out with Hotmail, you're gonna get that "Sent Message Confirmation" page now, but you CANNOT turn it off anymore. Before, they had a Preferences section in Options to let you turn that off, but they took that away. Is this a ploy to increase advertising?

But hey, if you know how to turn it off, I'm all ears. Please, no "You can turn it off by not using Hotmail" responses 🙂

Gee, you use their FREE email and you expect them to not advertise to make money? Hmmm, maybe when you grow up, enter the real world, and have to make a buck instead of living under mommy and daddy you'll understand this.

Speaking of junk mail...

For a test, I opened up a Hotmail account with a really strange name (lots of letters and numbers - something that nobody would guess). I didn't use it to send any e-mail, and I didn't tell anybody that I had it. I also didn't send any e-mail to my new Hotmail account. Within a week I had over 40 spam messages (mostly about porn). Now PLEASE, somebody explain to me how this is at all possible! And if you don't believe me, try it yourself.

Me thinks somebody on the inside is selling e-mail addresses to advertisers...

Gotta love the flames. Heheheh. Anyway, AmigaMan, I'm one of those penny-pinchers that rather save money for AT Deals than spend it on email (for now) 🙂 - I don't have friends 😉 so I dont' get too many emails a day, so 2MB enough for now. But no, I don't live w/ mommy and daddy, I'm 22 so I'm a little grown up, and I do have a job, but i bet you don't believe that ... 😛

khtm, I have another hotmail account (yep, TWO!) that I use for junk and I dont' do anythign w/ it and within a week or two, it was looded with about 100 emails

b0mbrman, it sux when you graduate and you lose that campus email. I was too lazy to get a "regular" email after I graduated, that I resorted to getting the infamous Hotmail account...

Heh heh. With all the complaints about Paypal, heatware, hotmail, etc. it's easy to forget that those are free services that we all choose to use (and can choose *not* to use just as easily 🙂)

Sorry Chewy, my comments aren't meant to offend you at all. They are just representative of my hatred of Hotmail. Especially the 2mb space. I'm on numerous student e-mail links and whenever I send a message to any link, I receive at least 3 bounce messages saying that my message couldn't be delivered because someobody's Hotmail inbox is full. 🙁 And it's a pain in the ass when you REALLY need to get in contact with somebody.

I use hotmail through outlook. I've yet to see that come up for me, but the email hasn't gone through yet either

I sent an email to that address and it got it just fine. I hope i can still send with outlook

khtm, oh I wasn't offended whatsoever. I aint' that kinda guy. I was just agreeing with you that new-member signup today will get you 100s of spam emails...after rereading what I wrote, I realized I shoulda said "spam emails" instead of just "emails" .. or maybe throw in a few 🙂s for your amusement ... but you're right that the 2MB is WAY too little and bounced back emails are annoying little buggers...that's why I just use my work email if I need to send big attachments...

b0mbrman, yup you're right. I chose hotmail cuz everyone knows it. If I told a friend that my email was Chewy@myowndomainname.com, they probably wouldn't remember it (especially with the lack of REAL domain names these days)... someone's gotta come up w/ a better email system 🙂

And to any of you who are thinking "why aren't you using your work email since you said u have one?" cuz I'm thinking of leaving to go work for LM 🙂

Best bet is to set your junk mail filter in hotmail to "Exclusive" and update your address book. I think that is what is going to have to happen in the future. Too much spam crap right now.

<< I'll never understand why people still use Hotmail. 2mb of space - wow! >>

my reason for using hotmail is because they're a big company and m confident that il'l keep my email address for a real long time without having to pay, unlike netaddress: they were free for awhile and now u have to pay. also, i dont have to be afraid of losing my email account due to lack of funds by microsoft.

yahoo is also free, but i dont like their interface.

military.com has free e-mail. I have had it since they came online and have had 3 junk mails. Great site and linkage as well.

This is not true at all. I had done the same thing... and I've gotten ZERO spam mail... I've actually sent mail out for purchase inquiries and I'm still spam-less with that email account. Haven't done anything else with it for months... still spam-less.

Want 12MB email space...? Zapo.net
