As part of a series of new storage policies aimed at driving more people toward its paid services, Microsoft has instituted a plan to delete sent Hotmail messages that are more than 30 days old. On Tuesday, it began erasing all messages in subscribers' Sent file transmitted before June 16.

Shah said the deletion of old sent messages is part of Microsoft's plan to help people manage their e-mail, adding the company figured "if it's 30 days or older, it's probably safe to go ahead and delete that."

It's time to stop using Hotmail. I've been receiving too many junk mails comparing to Yahoo.

One of MSN Messenger's features that I really like is whenever I logon it automatically checks my Hotmail and tells me if I have any new mail.

I had my account all-ready deleted before from hotmail after about 30 days of inactivity, it is really annoying. I wish they counted mail forwarding as checking your account... grrrr

!@#$@!#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS REALLY SUX...DAMN. I had some important stuff in there....man i'm pissed.

how can such wealthy company have such lousy handling of this? I'd love to see someone hack all the MS exchange servers and wipe their 30-day old s#it out. You think Bill Gates would be fine w/ that?

ugghh...the only reason I continue to use hotmail is I've had it from the days before MS owned it's pretty well established as a point of contact w/ my friends etc...guess i better suck it up and start making the move off...

WTF? How has any of your emails survived 6 years on hotmail? Hotmail farts about once-twice a year for me and loses *everything*. I can't imagine it not going corrupt at least once in 6 years! :Q

While this won't help people that already had their schtuff deleted, but couldn't you just move the contents of your Sent folder to a different folder every 20 days, thus preserving it till the end of time (or Hotmail, whichever comes first)??

i can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to keep important emails on a free webmail service:p um duh:p webmails best as secondary to the decent one that comes with your isp:p

yeah that's nice and convenient...i'd rather take the trouble to just pack up and move.

This really sux. And if you think about it, the implications for what could happen in the future with passport and the whole .NUTS initiative is disconcerting. I'm really feeling used, abused, and downright owned by MS. Looks like Bill's here for his BJ...i gotta go.

i can't believe your complaining about free email:p if it were so profitable u'd see more companies offering with more services and stuff instead of getting stingier and stingier or dissapearing.

Dunno if this is a repost or what but about 2 weeks ago Hotmail removed the facility of accessing your POP3 accounts if you are not a paid-subscriber.

That was one of the only things I used Hotmail for - checking my home POP3 account from work.

:disgust:
