Hotmail rant: why provide an automatically log me in checkbox if it won't work?

I go to check my hotmail. It asks for my name and password, and I check the box that says automatically log me in.

It works sometimes, but every now and then I have to once again enter my username and password.

Why the h* do they put that checkbox there if it doesn't work?

It is a free email service...what do you expect?
