Had my HotMail account for many years and never experienced this before.

Enter user name, password and I am in. Click on message and.....nothing. Clicking on text highlights the text but nothing else.

Obviously the mouse works as I am able to enter my mailbox. Tried other sites and am able to whatever is needed. Go to HotMail on another machine and everything is fine.

So, problem is with HotMail on THIS machine. What has changed to disable the left click on HotMail??

First i'd scan the pc for viruses/malware, then try a different browser.

I am using Firefox, but tried Chrome at your suggestion and it works. Very odd.

Will scan for bad guys.

Thanx

Been thru this a number of times with hotmail (and so have many others). Inspect browser settings (eg, cookies, java, cache clearing, etc) and in particular try lowering the security a notch.

What does "nothing" mean? Nothing happens? You get a white screen?

In any case I would try clearing the cache.

"Nothing" means nothing. Getting a white screen would be a change , which is something. Left click has no effect whatsoever. That is, until I click over some text - then it highlights the text. This allows me to "copy/paste", but who cares? Not what I want and am used to.

I cannot click to choose/open any message or to navigate to another message file. I can navigate away from HotMail.

I will clear the cache.

Thanx

Clearing the cache had no effect.

Installed Chrome and set HotMail as home page. Using Firefox as prime browser.

Problem worked around.:\

Thanx all.

I get this too, I always have to click on a message twice to view it in Firefox, once... then wait a second or two... then again (any version, any computer, has been this way for years for me). I just got used to it.

I always wondered if this was intentional: Microsoft using specific code so that their email service would work better in IE to get people frustrated in Firefox and to switch back. Then Chrome and Opera got popular, and I guess MS couldn't find a way to hi-jack their code to not work in it (or they just kept the same Firefox-hack in as a general FU to free browsers that prevent Microsoft from selling IE and making money off of it). What other reason could there be for hotmail specifically not working correctly in Firefox? :D

It would be interesting to analyze hotmail's source code to figure out why exactly this is... maybe a lawsuit could be filed if "intentional browser compatibility favoritism" is found to be proven...

I still don't understand what happened. But.............I can log in. I just can't do anything once in, except to navigate away. Change folders? Sure, but don't read anything. Leave it all behind? See ya!

I just tried "upgrading to Outlook.com" (Inbox -> Options at the top-right), and it's still doing the same thing sometimes. Since "Windows Live Hotmail" (released around 6 years ago), the site seems to wait for all the ads/scripts to finish loading in Firefox before letting you click on the email links, which usually takes at least 5-10 seconds (after the text/inbox is loaded) on just about every computer I've tried with all versions of Firefox. I'm guessing this is on purpose so you'll "see" all the ads before being able to do anything.
