Hotmail is really trying to get rid of me...

Both a friend and i who are on the same ISP and have been non-paying Outlook Express Hotmail users for years, are now getting our logins rejected and mailbox emptied sporadically every day (sometimes within a matter of minutes). When I try to send mail with my hotmail account in OE, or even just check it, it tells me to login directly to the website www.hotmail.com and 'verify my username and password' and the reason they state is that it is a measure to control SPAM. When I login at the website, before I get to my inbox, I also have to pass their security measure of typing in the letters/numbers from the jumbled graphic (ie. JASF83h2) which makes it all that more annoying to be doing constantly. Then finally when I get to my inbox, my hotmail account kicks in OE but then has to re download hundreds of messages again to synchronize which takes a long time.

We are convinced that hotmail is simply trying to shakeoff its old non-paying POP users who are nothing but an expense to them and obviously arent going to give them a dime! I do have a gmail account now but i still need to keep an eye on my old hotmail inbox and this is rediculous. I can't believe no one else has mentioned this problem...Are we the only ones having it for some reason?

im really surprised no one else had anything to say about this but just in case i found this crock of an explanation on the hotmail help website:

To protect our users from the increasing amount of unsolicited junk e-mail or spam sent from MSN HotmailSympatico Mail accounts through Outlook and Outlook Express, we have reluctantly had to restrict the new use of Outlook and Outlook Express to subscribers.

By making this feature part of a subscription, (which requires a user to provide billing information), we can more effectively manage and put a stop to abuse of this functionality, and help protect you and others from unsolicited mail.

If you purchase a subscription service such as MSN Hotmail Plus or MSN Premium, you get access to your account from Outlook or Outlook Express, along with many other added features. To see other benefits of upgrading your MSN HotmailSympatico Mail or MSNSympatico/MSN accounts or to create a new subscription account please visit our subscription information page
