Hey all,

I am going to start a hotline server (for those who dont know what this is its basically a FTP client) and had a few general questions... The server will be used for trading of files =]

1. What OS to run? XP/2k/2k server?
2. What file system to run? FAT32 or NTFS
3. Here is my concern, I currently have a 30 gig that is maxed out with stuff I need to tranfer to my new 100 gig, the 30 gig is fat32 running win2k, I would like to go NTFS on the new drive, but will I be able to tranfer all my files over from a win2k/fat32 to say a XP/NTFS?:D

All input gets mad appreciation =]

Thanks!

1. either XP or 2k, 2k server is not needed.
2. fat32 if you wanna remain compatible with other OS's, otherwise NTFS, it is much less likely to trash your filesystem, you dont have to poop a brick if the power goes out, not to mention compression, security, and encryption. just in general a better filesystem.
3. thats no prob, filesystems don't do anything with the files on them, they just store them in different ways. you could copy a file from fat32 to ntfs to xfs to ext2 to a floppy to a cd to whatever macs use (i forget) and back to the fat32 and other than being jetlagged from such a long trip:p, it would be the same file.

:D

EDIT: ok forget the mad appreciation, pm me your ip!
