I have a friend (an optometrist) who is running Apple computers in his exam room. They run a program and display is "A S D F Q" chart for people to read off.

What he wants to do is have a hotkey setup so that when he is not making the patient read off the chart he can hit a key on the keyboard and have it play a video or display CNN.com etc.

Can anyone recommend a program to do something along those lines?

Thanks.

If he has a Mac then he can use Expose... assuming he is using an updated mac with 10.3 (or maybe expose got introduced with 10.4) or newer. Then he can have the chart up, when he is done he hits F9 to tile all windows, and then arrows over to what he wants. Or, He can simply hit Command+Tab to get the OS X equivalent of Alt+Tab from Windows.

If he has an updated system, then I agree that Expose would probably be the easiest choice. You can even setup corner hot spots, so he just has to move the mouse to a corner to initiate a screen saver, or other desktop tasks.

Have him check that out.
