Hotfixes and SP4

Will the previous hotfixes and updates be removed from "Add/Remove programs" (and the $NtuninstallXXX$ directories for that matter) after installing SP4? What's the point of having the option of removing Pre-SP4 hotfixes after installing the final version? MS advices not to unninstall previous hotfixes prior to installing SP4, so I was wondering what happens.

I only installed SP4 on a fresh install of Windows 2000, and I'm being cautious about rolling it out on my workstations.

I think all of my pre-SP4 hotfixes where removed automatically when I installed SP4..Only showing one for Outlook Express installed now.
