Hotel Room Idea

so, on my European trip, i noticed a cool thing in all the hotel rooms. When you enter the room, there is a slot for your plastic keycard to the left. Once you put the card in, the power for the room turns on.... a way to save electricity. I thought the idea was genius, and could help hotels save tons of money on electricity. Anyone else seen this?

basically its so when you arent in the room, no power is being used

What if I want to leave something running while I'm away from my room? Lousy Euro pennypinchers.

yeah, I have never seen that in the states..... I dont think people here would understand it!

What if it's a 2 bedroom room? Each person gets a keycard?

Well, unless you're trying to be cheap and fitting more than one person in a one person room.

i like to keep my laptop charged when i head out of my hotel room for dinner. it would be very annoying situation if that occured to me

All the ones I've seen the outlets still work, it's just that the lights, ac, and whatever is hardwired into the room (like the tv) won't.

They have them in Japan too.
