HOT! XFX Radeon HD5770 - $75AR/FS at Newegg

Ahh damn. I just picked up a 5750 from NewEgg for just over $100 a couple of weeks ago.

That's the way the deals break.

a 5750 for over $100? i assume you HAD to have a video card then? because that wasnt much of a deal
tigerdirect had 5850s for $129 after rebate for a while (i got one-sold out now weeks later) and newegg has had 5830s even cheaper after rebate (not on sale right now but was at least two times in past couple months- friend and I each got one)

I've had to bake my 4850 4 times so far, can't find the solder joint that keeps going bad and I also removed the Zalman VF-700 I was using which was not approved for use on it..so Time for a new card.

To give a reference I use a Radeon 5770 driving triple monitors and play L4D and L4D2 at 5760x1080 resolution and its smooth. Chances are you have one monitor already you just need two more and this card.

Unless you are running in med graphics or something this is complete BS. The card cant even do 60fps at 2560x1200. and yet you can run 5760x1080 smoothly?

In the wise words of macaulay culkin "I dont think so" 😉

when the UPS guy delivered my Corsair 600t today he told me about this deal, I had no idea he was a geek. Usually he drops the package and runs off before I even spot him.

I have a 4850 I don't think this card would be much of an improvement, not $75 worth any ways. Damn I wish I needed a card 😀

Not a big diff in performance:

but nice added features, lower power use, heat output, and dx11 - if that matters

My only concern is the quantity of 1-egg ratings for this card. (11&#37😉

That is interesting, but it's a reference design and has a lifetime warranty, so at this price it's probably worth a shot.

how does this compare to a 4890?

The HD5770 is slower than an HD4890.

It's about 20-25% faster. Basically, it's a heavily overclocked 4850: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2856. But if you have the 512MB version of the 4850, that's going to seriously hold you back in some games: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2856/6

Hard for me to swallow that many negative reviews on that card. It's just odd. I have the same version of the 5850 and have had zero problems with it.

I did notice many of the reviews complaining about it screwing up sound drivers. If it's anything like my 5850, when you use the sound for the HDMI, it replaces your default sound device to the card for HDMI. So when you go back to a non-HDMI source, your sound is still set to go through HDMI in windows. All you have to do is set it back. I know the first time I did this I had a mild swearing session trying to figure out what was going on, but it's probably a good possibility that this is what a lot of the sound complaints are from. I know when I figured it out it was a big facepalm moment. I laughed and all was good in the universe again.

-edit-

I looked at the reviews again. The ones within the last 6 months are all good (4-5 eggs). On top of that, if you count 105 1-egg reviews, subtract a few for what I would assume is the sound problem people are complaining about, and then subtract those that are just complaining about the lack of a crossfire bridge, I would throw out around 75ish or so that are pure DOA or something really bad out of 924. I hardly find that alarming and wouldn't personally use that as grounds for avoiding the card. Just my thoughts on the matter there.

Sorry but it runs smooth for me. 30fps would provide smooth I would guess Im getting 37-40fps at 5760x1080 if there is a benchmark I can run in L4D and L4D2 Im more than willing to do so.
