Not sure if this is a hot deal or not but it looked pretty good to me. It's a Western Digital 1000JB SE 8MB Cache 7200 RPM for $259.00 + $10.70 shipping. From what I could find on the net the 1000BB is the same as the 1000JB, WD just decided to switch up the names for this Special Edition drive. Here's some of the specs that I pulled from the vendor's site:

[*]Read Seek Time (Average) 8.9 ms
[*]Write Seek Time (Average) 10.9 ms (average)
[*]Track-To-Track Seek Time 2.0 ms (average)
[*]Full Stroke Seek 21.0 ms (average)
[*]Average Latency 4.2 ms (nominal)
[*]Rotational Speed 7,200 RPM (nominal)
[*]Mode 5 Ultra ATA 100.0 MB/s
[*]Mode 4 Ultra ATA 66.6 MB/s
[*]Mode 2 Ultra ATA 33.3 MB/s
[*]Mode 4 PIO 16.6 MB/s
[*]Mode 2 multi-word DMA 16.6 MB/s
[*]Buffer To Disk 525.0 Mbits/s (Max)
[*]Buffer Size 8 MB

Check it out if you want here.

nope.

BTW, I think the JB has 8MB cache while the BB has 2MB

edit: Do you by chance work for Monarch Computer?

I bought a 1200JB (also 8MB cache, but 120 gigs) for $272.79 with 2nd day shipping. the base price on the drive itself was $254.99, with Ground shipping being about $12...
Not really a hot deal if you ask me, plus MWave.com does have a whole lot cheaper and is a more trustworthy place to shop than Monarch.

By the way, welcome to AT, jajogega (though I see you joined in August of last year already).

The WD1000BB is the regular drive with 2MB cache, the WD1000JB is actually the WD1000BB-SE, which has always had an 8MB cache.

I remember reading this drive outperforms all the other ide drives in its class. I remember they were making direct comparisons between this drive and a high performance SCSI drive. This is supposed to be a good one. Don't know anything about pricing on it though.

This drive is damn fast, I bought it after my cheap IBM 60gxp failed on me. I got it for $258 a while ago, so this is not hot. Highly recommended drive though, as it outperforms ANY IDE drive with its 8mb cache.

WD is better than IBM now? Isn't that gonna bring up a whole new controversial issue here?
