I think that is the lowest price yet. Even on Black Friday it was $199.99 AFTER a $30 MIR at newegg.

Very hot deal!

Hmm ya this is very hot with no MIR, almost $.50 per GB. Its the same specs as the one on Newegg, 16MB cache. I'd pull the trigger but my next storage subsystem needs to be considerably faster than what I got now....so 2xSSD in RAID 0 or bust. ;)

This is the fastest one out. Dangit, I bought my velociraptor 3 months ago off ebay using live cash for that price. Shoulda waited a few more months and got it even cheaper.

Yes, it is the fastest right now. No, there is not a 32MB version. Text

Dang, I bought this thing 2 months ago for almost $300. Didn't see a price change coming...

Would I see a significant improvement with this drive over a cheap 500 GB Hd or not?
It's tempting, but I want to actually feel the difference for it to be worth it.

I need the Intel SSD's to be at this price. I would jump on it in a second even for only 80 GBs.

i'm pretty sure he didn't mean it literally... but he said the velo was 10% faster than the 640 caviar black that i wanted. and i'm not really a speed freak (or a gamer).

Good call, and you'll be seeing more rapid price drops on the Raptors.

you would probably feel the difference, but depending on how much i/o intensive actions you did would make the value better or worse for you. imho, w/ the way ssds have been coming down in price and up in performance, i would wait for them and go w/ a newer, high density platter designed larger hdd for the time being - like the seagate 7200.10/11 250GB hdds, the wd320aaks and other drives based on the 250 and 320GB sized platters.

Very tempting...I've been weighing getting one of these on and off for a few months now. That's about as cheap as I've seen them, even compared to eBay cashback deals. But yeah, I'm thinking that I've waited this long, might as well wait a bit longer for decent SSDs to start dropping in price.

The fact that this is still the older non-SATA backplane compatible version makes the decision a little easier for me.

I thought there were only two versions of the 300GB Raptor. The original one and the one with the revised SATA and power ports to work with server racks...

That's what I've been thinking too... For this price i can get two Blacks and raid them for extremely good performance and double the storage.

Otherwise if I had money to burn this was a really hot deal.

I picked one up for $200 after MIR from Newegg. Oh well.

My reactions: everything loads noticeably faster as compared to my 400 gig Seagate. A faster that you can feel. So if you want to upgrade something, and do it now, then I think this is worth the money. In my case, 300 gigs is more than enough for almost everything - I'm going to use my other drive for backups and to store home video that I'm not working with currently.

On the other hand, I realized that loading time for windows and apps doesn't matter to me that much ... it isn't like I'm in ecstasy in having an extra second here or there. And the occasional lag in video editing with Premiere is smaller, but still very noticeable. So if you need more space or want to spend less or want to wait for SSD to mature another year+ then that makes sense too.

Whew, good thing this deal died. I already have three VR300 that I haven't put in use yet (one Newegg w/rebate, two Ebay cashback).
