Boy! this is hot and a lot better than that Maxtor 160gb deal going around. The drive is faster and has a better warranty.

At your neighborhood fry's.

Im kinda thinking of getting this one too after that microcenter deal. Cant have too many hard drives :)

Question is - does Staples.com have these? :)

This deal may be slightly better than the Maxtor one *AFTER* rebate...but you have to wait 6-8 weeks for your rebate. Everyone that got in on the Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM 8MB cache drives got them for about $100 shipped including tax and shipping, no MIR. :D

Damn...$159.99 on their site.

I don't have a neighborhood Fry's. :(

Ah well...I definitely don't need any more hard drives anyway. Thx for posting this deal...looks great for those that are lucky enough to have Fry's in their hood.

would Circuit City PM Fry's to their AR price of $129.99? They have the same drive for $279.99 plus a $100 rebate too. Could be xtremely hot, if CC will PM it.

I think Staples is one of the only companies that will do pricematches to after rebate prices.

I am not an expert on Circuit City, but I am pretty sure they would not be down for that.

Decent deal, but not better than the Staples 160 deal IMO. Remember that you have to pay tax on the $229. You are paying tax on the $100 that you will not see in quite a while. This adds another $8+ to the deal. I paid tax on only $88 for the Staples 160.

CC will match a after rebate price, but if they also have a $100 rebate they will only match the before rebate price.

I think you missed one of his points...ALL maxtor drives including the 8mb cache carry a 1 yr warranty but WD SE drives carry a 3 yr warranty.

Officially they carry a 1 yr warranty, but people have been reporting receiving 3 yr warranty models when they check their serial on Maxtor's site...it is hit or miss...but some 160GB 8MB drives are 3 yr.

But yes, it is a valid point. However, some people don't see the need to pay the extra $$$ for 2 more years of warranty. To each his own I guess.

My Maxtor 160gb drive checked out with a 3-year warranty in their website even though the box says 1-year....
