Hot video card - a problem?

I took off the fan to my video card and all that is left on the vid chip is the heatsink. The fan stopped spinning once before, and I didn't think it was too big of a deal. I recently cleaned up all the gunk that had accumulated in the fan and it started spinning again. However, since it has started spinning, it has been making this terrible buzzing sound that just drives me nuts. Therefore, I just took off the fan in hopes that it would quiet down the system. Well the system is quieter, but the video card heatsink is hot to the touch.

Is this something I should worry about? Will the heat shorten the lifespan of my vid card?

yes. the reason why your vid card has a fan on it is because it will likely become damaged from the heat. if you want silent, search up newegg and get a fanless video card cooler. it's just a HUGE heatsink that works very well. i forgot its name though.
