DSLR thread

Any case anyone doesn't know what the thread title means, it's about being able to get DSL service, and not have to also be a paying local telco customer.

Apparently this deal is "unannounced" thus far, but I've read other material indicating that it should be announced publically sometime before the end of the year.

(Hopefully sooner! I want my cheap DSL. Screw paying for local telco service. I'll use Skype or something.)

Interesting, but unless I missed something, does it say anywhere whether the $29.95 rate would apply for this naked service? That rate seemed like a bundled incentive plan. If they offerred that rate for naked service, it would be cool.

I have cable here in nyc for $44.95. Verizon's download speeds aren't nearly up to par with Time Warner's, but they're supposed to be opening up the pipes more lately. I'd consider switching if they could bring the speed caps up. Right now TW cable is about 3x faster than Verizon's DSL in terms of bandwidth.

I hear ya. I'm using optimum online on Long Island & Verizon DSL just doesn't compare in terms of speed. They could be a serious competitor if they bumped up the speed a bit because the price is right.

But unless you DL 24/7, the 1400+ kbps from Verizon DSL is plenty, and saves a few bucks. Especially since they're raising the UL speed to something useful. So for a lot of users, it is competitive. Also, Verizon has very good news servers.

I'm also using optimumonline. If they can offer a different plan with speeds like OOL, maybe I'll even consider switching.
