Man, Amazon has some pretty poor reviews on TurboTax Deluxe! People are either really mad, or it's one really, really vengeful guy putting up a new review just about every day.

I've used the Web-base TurboTax for the past four years. I'm a student... I don't make much, so I qualify for the free filing. I don't remember if it costs me something to do my state taxes, though... if so, $10 AR is probably better than what I pay for doing the state Web-based thing.

I should look into that... but those Amazon reviews are scary.
 
Am I missing something or isn't that the same deal that OM, Staples and craponus is doing. I got mine from OM, net of $29.95, free (after rebate e-file) and free (again after rebate) state program
 
Okay, I am confused too. Looks like there is a $10 rebate and another $30 rebate for purchasing TurboTax Deluxe 2003 alone (i.e. you DON'T have to buy anything else along with TT to get the total $40 rebate

Is this right or am I missing something ?

TT is showing up for $37.95 for me, so this seems to be a great deal if the $40 rebate is valid for purchase of TurboTax Dlx 2003 alone

Never mind, I figured it out. There is nothing special about this deal that is not already avaiable everywhere else. The $30 rebate is on TurboTax 2003 STATE edition ... not on TT itself.

Here is the bottom line

Buy TurboTax Deluxe 2003 for $37.95
Get $10.00 rebate without having to buy anything

Get a $30 rebate IF YOU BUY TT State Edition for another $29.95

Get another $30 rebate IF YOU BUY Quicken Basic 2004 for another $29.95

So after everything is said and done, you pay a total of about $27.95 for TT Dlx 2003 -OR- TT Dlx 2003 with TT State Edition and/or Quicken Basic 2004 ... which is about the same deal that everyone else is giving

After last year's activation fiasco (does the phrase "Charlie Foxtrot" mean anything to you?), I would be surprised if anybody is still using TurboTax. I ended up using TaxAct last year...it's free (as in beer, anyway) and it gets the job done. (There's also an inexpensive paid version with a few more features, but I didn't need those features.)
