Requirements: 240V 50Amp circuit. Code: external disconnect at least 5 feet away from the hot tub in visible sight. yadda yadda But, I couldn't find any details as to:

50A 240V GFI breaker main panel & just a 50A switch outside, or should I use a 50A double pole breaker in the main panel and a GFI breaker outside?

Or, 50A double pole GFI in the main panel AND a 50A GFI outside?

This the best way to go?:

Thanks.

The code sounds the same as a AC system which is a Breaker in the box. The wire runs to another box that is a disconnect.

What you listed will work fine and should pass code.

I went to go fill my hot tub up yesterday, then when I saw water on my sun-room floor from a leak I said fuck it. The water level stayed about 8" off the bottom so I assume it's just a minor leak at that level, what would be a good way to fix it? Some form of epoxy? I don't care if it's ugly, lol.

Sorry for the derailment DrPizza, just figured maybe you or someone else could help me. Didn't bother me enough to make a thread :)

that is what the electrician put in when i had my hot tub wired. my main breaker is on my deck 10' from my tub so he just put the breaker in the main box.

i know you live in the country so do you need to pull a permit? i live in a town so yea i had to pay 100 bucks for a building permit then call a inspector to come out to sign off on it after the work was done.

cracked shell is normally the death of a hot tub. sure you can patch it if you can get to the crack from the inside but like a windshield the crack will grow.

F1N3ST - hot tub leaks can be a major pain in the ass. I have a hot tub in the hot tub spot & our old hot tub standing on its side about 10 feet away. I'll remove the pump & a few other items from the old hot tub. The old hot tub, if you flipped it over, was 100% filled with that rigid foam insulation. Absolute pain in the ass to try to dig through it to find a leak, to the point where we finally said "screw it." Waited til someone posted a good hot tub for a decent price on craigslist (actually got an incredible deal - was offered more for my leaking hot tub minus the pump than I paid for the new, working, and annually serviced hot tub.) Wife is on vacation next week & wants me to finish installing the hot tub.

If I can get to both sides of the crack, I should be able to fix it properly, right? If not then it's more of a patch.

I was thinking a bit of heavy grit sand paper and possibly some epoxy.

I have fiberglass and resin in my garage, along with bondo.

Bleh.

(My hot tub is off CL ^) Lmao. It was cheap and worked good last year.

I think you'd have a much easier time repairing a crack in the shell though than attempting to repair a crack in one of the water lines in our old hot tub.
