Is this thing any good? I've never owned a palm thing like this and I'm curious enough to consider getting one.
Edit: They also have the Palm Tungsten E w/
  • 32MB memory
  • SD expansion slot
Oh, never mind... it's probably $200 for a toy I'll never really use.

This e550g isn't bad for the cost. It used to cost a lot of $ (like $500 in the day) since it's a specialty item that's only sold in America in very small quantities. It's meant to be a Japanese market product.

Here's the breakdown:
Dual CF and SD, which means you get both slots.
400MHz X-Scale 400. Standard chip for when it was released.
Pocket PC 2002: a bit old by now, but the OS should suffice.

The kicker: 4" screen. This thing has pretty much the largest PDA screen on the market. Other Pocket PC's come with 3.5" or 3.8" screens.

Basically, it's a good PDA if you want a big screen or a good amount of expandability. And yes, it's the cheapest I've seen a Genio on sale for. If you try hard, you may be able to stack a coupon on it to make it cheaper.

Coupoe things to consider:

1. The screen is of older reflective type and is fairly dim

2. 4" screen comes at the cost. Pocket PC does not support resolutions beyond 320X480, Genio's screen appears very pixelated when compared to other POcket PC's.

3. The PDA itself is huge, not for pockets

good points. i was really considering this pda.

I bought one on a whim tonight because of the 4" screen and 400mhz CPU. It's getting returned. It seems this is bastard device from 2002 that was made by some company in Taiwan for Toshiba. It was originally for the Japanese market only. It was later marketed by Audiovox in the US, who has now dropped support for it. Toshiba USA disavows the e550's existance. The PCM slot does NOT support WiFi cards. This isn't worth it for the $$$. Links to more info.
