Go to staples.com and you will see their 40 gig hard drive listed at 89.99 here:

Hard Drive at Staples

There are two $30 rebates for this hard drive. One at maxtor and the other with staples.

Staples Rebate

Maxtor Rebate

Add $10 of stuff to get it over 100, use a 20 off coupon and you have:

$90 hard drive
+$10 of random stuff
-$20 coupon
-$30 staples rebate
-$30 maxtor rebate
______
$20 for the hard drive and 10 bux of other stuff

I know that both rebates "require" the original UPC but as I've heard, staples will usually let you send in a copy.

The maxtor rebate expires today so move quickly!

These are the same rebate. I'm not sure why there are two ways of listing them because it is the source of much confusion. I got caught out. Read the address to which you are sending the rebate, they are the same. In addition, both request the original bar code. Do not do as I did and thing you could get these at no cost NOT TRUE.

I know the poster meant well but I took a bath on this one.

Same address but different departments for the rebates. Both specifically state wanting originals for the UPC. They've been flexible in the past, but there seems to be concern of late that they're finally wising up. It seems like a very risky deal.

I did this deal three weeks ago. $10 of FAR stuff and the drive is $10 after coupon and two rebates. The Maxtor rebate has since changed though and both rebates now have the same address. The old Maxtor rebate had a different address on it. I've received confirmation on the Maxtor rebate, but am still waiting to hear on the Staples one. I sent a copy of the UPC to the Staples one with a note saying that the original UPC was needed for a manufacturer's rebate and then sent the original to Maxtor.

EDIT: Whoa, just kidding. It looks like the rebates are still two different addresses. The same two different addresses that I sent my rebates to three weeks ago. Did I mention they're two different addresses? Looks like this is still a go. About the original UPC thing, in the past, Staples has always accepted a copy of the UPC if you needed the original for another rebate. Just include a note, and if they still don't accept it, call them up and explain that there was another rebate.

McAllen, TX != Miami, FL! Looks like a go to me!

EDIT: I guess its only a go if the box has two UPC codes on it...?

Can anyone who has this hd verify that there are 2 upc's on the box? Better yet can anyone verify that both rebates will work... post it if so!

Many thanks,

Guy

McAllen == Miami == rebateshq.com

the Dept # tells you if its the same rebate or not. that said, the main concern is whether you can BS the rebate center into taking a copy of UPC.

I, too, did this double Maxtor rebate a few weeks ago, but first sent an email to Staples asking about the two required UPC codes. Here is the response I got:

"We appreciate your inquiry concerning this issue.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. You can make a copy of the UPC code to send
in for the Staples rebate. This will ensure that you receive both rebates.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if
you require further assistance.

Thank you for your patience concerning this matter.

I included a printed copy of this email with the copied UPC code I sent in for rebate. I have no doubt it'll work.
