I just saw this on tech-bargains and almost clicked 'process the order' right away. However, I forced not to do it as I am looking for one with DVD drive to watch movies on my business trip.

But for some one looking for a cheap light weight laptop, this is a very hot deal.

Just go to www.outpost.com and search for Thinkpad 570

Here's the LINK though this is "refurbished." and it can be almost $700 chunk off my bank account! hmm thanks for the deal though.

I assume that it's refurbished by IBM, so it should be in good shape. I don't think that you can get any better laptop for $700 although adding another $300 can get a pretty good loaded laptop.

I have to say that the TFT screens on refurbished laptops are not very ideal because a lot of people including myself return laptops if they have one or two dead pixels even though they are still within their quality specs.

I bet they do not fix those deal pixels.

Still, $700 for a full functional, clean, brand name, light wight, PII, TFT, 64MB laptop is a killer deal.

333Mhz is a little weak for DVD playback with external player unless it comes with one of those ATI chip based video; otherwise, I would get it.

pretty nice price for a refurbished unit.

normally the manufacturer wouldn't replace the screen unless there are more than 12-15 dead pixels. kinda sucks but that's the regular policy, if I remember correctly.

new/new open box unit for this particular model is still around $1100-$1200. warranty is 3 years though.

Detailed specs from IBM

A smaller HPA screen for $100 more? No thanks...TFT is the
ONLY way to go. For most people, PII 333Mhz is fast enough.
(Will work fine for MS Office and stuff like that). And HPA
screens are awful...

The deal is dead. My order was cancelled since they said that it was out of stock and was a discontinued product. :(
