HOT!!: TDK 100pk 700mb $9.99 MIR @ Costco!

from my experience, the TDKs are from taiwan, aka POS. costco used to have the TYs from japan but i haven't seen those in about 2 years.

just my input.

hey don't bash the tdk's so much, at least you can burn an image clean on em. Now granted, they'll probably only last 10-30 yrs, but that's waay longer than some other brands that have had deals on them. Take the CompUSA cdrs for example. Now those I could not get a clean burn on no matter how many cds I tried.

i agree with slothman

You're pretty uninformed.

I have purched 150 Japan-made Taiyo Yuden TDK CDR's from Costco in the past couple months. It depends on which supplier your particular store is getting their stock from. TDK's 32x CDRs are made by both TY (japan) and Ritek (taiwan). If you're not finding Japan discs, try a different store.

not true.. I found some TY's mixed in w/ the taiwan ones during the February sale.. I suggest ppl to try and dig for 'em.

Having had worked for Costco for 10 years I can tell you that every store gets from the same supplier. Costco uses a depot system. They do a bulk purchase have the order divided up and shipped to each of their depot facilities. Their depot facilities then take the items and divvy them up for each individual store(amount is dependant on the stores volume either an A,B or C volume store) and then shipped to that store on several massive trucks carrying hundreds of different items along with the cdr's I mentioned. So your comment that in depends which supplier your particular store is getting from is So not true since all cdr's from THAT shipment are all from the same supplier. But Costco does use different suppliers at certain times, they go where the best price is so one month I could see them having TY and the next having Ritek's. Just a little FYI for those who care.

Whiplash: All I can tell you is what others here have told me. My Costco (in NY) has Made-in-Japan 100-packs. But in an earlier thread dedicated to this deal, dozens of people posted that their costco's had Made-in-Taiwan ritek 100-packs. It definitely was NOT the same.

Besides, I'm not sure you're really disagreeing with me. You start by saying every Costco uses the same supplier, but then say that Costco may switch suppliers from month to month to get a better deal. So it's not hard to see how some costco's could be selling Japan discs and others selling Taiwan discs.

Picked up a 100 pack of TDK from Costco last week. Made in Japan. So, assuming that is Taiyo Yudens. Go drive down there and reset the clock on when you saw TDK use Taiyo Yudens =P.

Correct, I was not disagreeing with you. I was just letting people aware of the Costco buying procedure. The reason some are sellin TY and others Ritek is product turnover. Some stores do more business therefore have a higher turnover of product, therefore ordering items more frequent which could lead to having both TY and Ritek on hand. And when I said they use the same supplier I meant that each store doens't have its own individual supplier, Costco as a company uses a particular supplier for a particular order. But change suppliers based on lowest bid. The buying team for Costco does a pretty good job of trying to get the best prices on most items. Too bad their software and computer book buying team sucks. I had many an arguement with them with out result.

I know Costco had moved to a distributer that was selling the Ritek's like a year and a half ago but it seems like the new distributer has the TY's. So at some point all stores should have or will have the TY's.

according to what I saw at Costco 3 days ago, they have both Taiwanese and Japanese CD's. The packaging is different so it's easy to tell.
However, the $5 instant rebate didn't go through for me :-(

hey, don't misunderstand me please.

all i'm trying to say is that you should look carefully at where the discs are made. i think we can all agree on the ones that are made in japan are TYs and are excellent. i'm just saying that i haven't seen TYs at the costco in my area for a long time. perhaps you'll find the TYs at your local costco. consider yourself fortunate cuz i haven't been. heh.

and believe me, i love TDKs, as long as they are from japan. i'd say about 75% of the burned CDRs i have are TDKs. 🙂

happy hunting!

to help you all out here's some more info for you:

if you aren't lucky enough to find any TDK/TYs, i'd recommend hunting for deals on fujifilm cdrs. you might find deals on them at fry's, compusa, BB, and CC. for me, TYs in fujifilm seem to be more plentiful than ones in TDKs.

here's the CDR info on the ones i have from compusa:
