Just confirmed this in Worcester, MA.

BB is selling the T68i for $200.
ATT has a $50 MIR.
BB has a $125 MIR.

Final Price ~ $25

When I called the guy he said all of the rebates come with purchase, doesn't look like anything online. Also, he said this price should be the same at all BB's, so YMMV.

Anyone know how well this phone works in the northeast area, primarily, VA, NY, MA? What about maps showing coverage in the future, say winter, then spring 2003?

Although the rebate will print at the register, the rebate is only valid on new activations. This is a good deal on the phone, but just don't count on getting the rebates unless you're signing up for a new account. Also, make sure that this phone works in your home area, as this is a GSM phone and AT&T hasn't converted all of its markets to GSM. Even if your market has been switched, I would advice waiting for another 6 months before you switch to GSM due to the lack of coverage.

Just a few observations from yours truly.

Ditto that. One of my friends works for ATT and said that the GSM coverage right now is horrible. They're working hard on converting everything but it's advisable to do some research before getting this phone.

Where can you find good deals on phones if you already have wireless service? All these deals on phones are for new customers. That sucks! :|

I have AT&T Wireless in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Even though this is a HOT deal for those who likes the T68i, I recommend going with Cingular or T-Mobile on this instead of AT&T. AT&T is not really up to GSM network and they're just setting up new towers to accommodate for GSM band. This phone has a downsize that it's not multi-band network. So, you have to go with GSM plan and GSM network only.

In comparision of Digital Plans between AT&T and T-Mobile/Cingular, yes AT&T is superior.
But in comparision of GSM Network between AT&T and T-Mobile/Cingular, you will not be happy with AT&T.

Just a few opinions.

According to a recent keynote.com survey... http://www.keynote.com/press/html/02sept16.html, AT&T Wireless ranked #1 for performance and #3 for Availability with Cingular and T-Mobile like you suggest @ #3 and #4; #5 and #5 accordingly. I think more people will be happier with AT&T GSM over those two at this time.

I will wait until next year when AT&T has fully setup their GSM network in my area.

T-Mobile is good depending on Area. I'm in the San Gabriel Valley area and T-Mobile sucks. I use the AT&T GSM and it works great. There have been times where it didn't work because of work on the system (only twice, thru) and a few holes in service (only two places, on a street and the other a building-must be the building because no other building does this and all cell signals like Cingular and Verizon including the TDMA service doesn't work too well there too). Of the seven people that unfortuneatly use the T-Mobile service in this area often can't make calls or call are constantly dropped.

Maybe I'll wait another month when they start having Christmas sales on the phones, then pick up a TDMA phone for AT&T for cheap. Then next year I'll upgrade to AT&T GSM phone once their networks cover more area.

Good idea? Any recommendations on which TDMA phone to get?

Um yeah, the $125 Best Buy rebate is only if you sign up for a 2 year contract

take it from someone who works at best buy - wait for a better deal on this one.

I'm thinking of getting this phone (Ericcson T68i) or the Motorola V60g. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge about both of them? If so, which one is better in your opinion? How durable is the "joystick" on the T68i?

Thanks for your help.

Also, the T-Mobile coverage map is better than the AT&T map, in my opinion.

The joystick seems pretty durable, but it's a tad bit sensitive. I wrote a long involved review on the merits of the T68i versus the Nokia 8390 here (It's my opinion thru). The T-Mobile coverage map may seem better than the AT&T map, but if you can get service in the area is the question. But this is my exprience of both services in the SoCal area, remember the Cingular network here is very saturated and T-Mobile isn't helping it.

I just realized these plans aren't very good, they don't have any night and weekend minutes ... no wonder AT&T is offering 500 anytime. I think I'll go with the T-Mobile, 600 anytime and pay $10 for the unlimited night.
