Hot system, messed up audio?

I made an Athlon 64 rig over the weekend that's running hot. A side effect, and a weird one at that: when the system gets above 50 degrees Celsius the audio starts popping and cracking. It's not an analog problem (like speaker wire not all the way in); it sounds more like a digital problem. The card is an Audigy 2 ZS.

Could it be that the heat is causing the card to malfunction? I don't notice the problem when the system is running cool, although it's only been running for a few days.

CPU overheating can manifest in a lot of different ways, but audio problems? I don't know. Check your paste and HSF mounting job on the CPU first to get your temps to something more standard then see if your ZS starts to behave. If that isn't it check to see that there aren't any conflicts with your ZS and maybe reseat it as well.

whats the ambient temp inside the case. if its too hot then it could defenatly cause probs. when my case temp gets above 35C my southbridge gets too hot which causes crackling sounds. but I use soundstorm audio so it may be different for a audigy

I had the same problem on an 8RDA+ - when the north bridge got too hot, the audio and LAN got flakey.

Hmm, interesting. I get that problem when i try clocking my Tbred-B/NF7-S system past 200fsb. I also have the same Sound card as you. The "chirping" sounds or blips come when i load the system, most notable during game play. My system runs usually at 52C CPU and 40C ambient on load with Room temperature around 77-85 F.

Im not certain how or if a hot or unstable NB/SB might interact with the PCI cards.
