Get through the nature nest and then the computer usually bombs here with a "not enough memory error" inside the 2001 software... What could be going on??? System Specs are below... Using 300 MB swap file (max and min set to the same) on 512 MB RAM

Any ideas...?? Anyone else heard of this?

Okay, I tried setting the Vcache to 128000 min and 128000 max... Didn't help... BTW, what should these be set to when one has 512 Megs of RAM???

More info on the problem...

When the Benchmark quits, I get the following message in a small window...

-----------------------------
3D Mark could not initialize your 3D accelerator. Try to downgrade your display settings. DIRECTX error Message: setFullscreen-craeting the device failed: EOUTOFMEMORY
-----------------------------

HELP!!! What could it be???

this has been posted ad infinitum, especially after the Det 4 drivers were first offered
unfortunately, the database history on AT was lost or deleted a few weeks ago after the
server problems
it has nothing to do with memory - at least not directly
drop back to the 5.32 drivers and you'll see it'll work thru, or at least initialize.

FWIW the problems boil down to file corruption
When you install 98SE you get VIA from Microsoft IDE drivers and VIA from Microsoft busmaster drivers
You then install later version with "VIA/VIA" busmaster and IDE with 4in1's package
you also get Direct X 6.1 which you probably overwrite with a later one
you have probably changed nvidia drivers a dozen times also
soundcards are bus hogs (same bus as AGP) and its drivers interact with DirX
You have prob changed soundcards several times also.

I have spent many wasted hours delving into this
IN CERTAIN SYSTEMS - everyones install is different - you have to restart with an immaculate driver database
(In other words, you must have an "immaculate conception")
This means a format of the C drive (sorry)
allow the progress bar to time out on all install reboots
after getting into windows for first time you must remove direct X - using DXBuster
DxBuster is a must have program. Imminent next version will do Win 2K.
you must remove MS VIA busmaster, then MS VIA ide in dev manager
when you reboot you will have no ide drivers and will need a boot floppy with the zipped 4 in 1 drivers on them
install the 4 in 1 by steering message to A:\
you then add (if needed-check dev man) the VIA/VIA busmasters (3.12) from Viahardware.com
you now install your sound card and all its programs (NOT in PCI slot 1 - which will be left open)
remember. at this point you have no DirX and standard VGA, and ONLY VIA drivers
add ALL your apps now. (Its a pain in standard VGA - I know)
now add DirectX 8.1 FINAL FROM Microsoft site ONLY (4.08.0881) (actually .0695 works best if you can find it)
the 11MB Dir X D/L is CRITICAL! Turn off your Zone Alarm, do not use Gozilla or Getright etc. and if you
see it pause - start again! (Same for NVidia D/L)
the LAST thing to do is nvidia drivers of choice. Start with OFFICIAL drivers.
You must uninstall any video later only using "detonator destroyer".
Do NOT install any tweaking program until you are sure everything works. (NVMax/PowerStrip/Rivatuner)
You can play with SBA and fastwrites in the registry.
